I was introduced to data science and big data when I worked for a telecommunications company doing product management for data center and cloud computing services. My experience in handling big data sparked my curiosity to learn data science. As a spectator at the other side of the fence, I felt excited at how data analysts are able to generate insights out of seemingly random data. In my capstone project, I used the data infrastructure system I’m familiar with to create a group recommender system using the million song dataset. We used the humongous dataset, trained it using dozens and dozens of Amazon Web Services clusters so that it could recommend a playlist of songs for groups of listeners.
